Don and Kate Applebaum met at The Restaurant School in Philadelphia, but their love story and shared passion for food took them from Philly to New Orleans and then back to Downingtown. Over the course of their relationship and respective careers, Don and Kate worked in some of Philadelphia’s most prestigious restaurants, learned the ins and outs of Cajun fare in New Orleans, and eventually opened their own restaurant: Cajun Kate’s New Orleans Market.
At Cajun Kate’s, there’s one signature dish you definitely shouldn’t miss: the crawfish pie. Tender crawfish come tucked inside of a fluffy pastry dressed with a Creole-inspired tomato glaze. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy the crawfish, though. Order the Cajun popcorn crawfish and dip the deep-fried crawfish into a Creole tartar sauce, or skip the crawfish and try the catfish fingers instead. You can also opt for jambalaya, the gumbo of the day, or a classic muffaletta sandwich.
